UPDATED!

For any new-to-me readers, I thought I'd post a list of my books by romance trope—we all have those ones we go to over and over again (for me it's friends to lovers, also lately I've been loving enemies to lovers!) or some that we hate and avoid. So here's a list of some familiar tropes and which of my books include that trope...

Opposites attract — Body Shot, Icing, Play to Win, Big Stick

Fake relationship — Shut Out, Sweet Deal, Play to Win, Win Big

Best friend’s little sister — Major Misconduct, Off Limits – or older sister - Firecracker

Office romance — No Obligation Required, Limited Time Offer, Sweet Deal, All I Want for Christmas

Friends to Lovers — Her Stand-In Boyfriend, Friends With Benefits, With Strings Attached, Rigger, Game Changer, Screwed

Unrequited Love -- No Obligation Required, Win Big, Screwed

Billionaire hero — Playing Dirty, Sweet Obsession, Body Shot

Menage à trois — One Wicked Night, Rule of Three series, Loving Maddie, Three of Hearts, Love Me, Love Me More, 2 Hot 2 Handle, How to Love, Lost and Found, Conference Call

Professional athlete hero (other than hockey) Slammed (Pro surfer)

Secret baby - Dancing in the Rain

Fling – Top Shelf, Friends with Benefits, Limited Time Offer, Slap Shot, All Messed Up, Breakaway, Irish Sex Fairy, Screwed

Motorcycle club — Hot Ride

Second chance — Jilted, Worth Waiting For, Offside, Off Limits, Back Check

Enemies to lovers — Crazy Ever After, Power Play, Hot Shot, Cross Check

Younger man/older woman — Power Struggle, All Messed Up

Cop hero — All Messed Up, Hot Ride (undercover), You Really Got Me, Irish Sex Fairy

Firefighter hero – Firecracker

Military – Navy SEALs – Body Shot, Hot Shot, Long Shot

Single mom— Big Stick

Bet – Game On

Runaway bride – Game Changer

BDSM (not really a trope, but thought I'd include) — Power Struggle, Power Play, Power Shift, You Really Got Me, Sweet Obsession, All Messed Up, Playing Dirty, Rigger, Sexpresso Night

I love digital books

Digital books are perfect for this crazy time when we’re stuck at home. If you’re like me, you have to read. I just have to. If I didn’t have my Kobo and I couldn’t go to the bookstore, I’d be re-reading all my old paperbacks. The ones that I’ve kept, that is. I ran out of space for storing print books long ago, and in my last move, I forced myself to condense my collection even more. I also love reading digital books because I can adjust the font for my poor aging eyes. No squinting at tiny print! And another beautiful thing is going to the online bookstore, one (or two) clicking and having a new book to read, even if you’re on your couch or in bed at midnight

If you’re new to reading digital books, do not be afraid!

Here are your choices:

Amazon

Everyone knows Amazon and they’re definitely the biggest retailer for digital books. You can read on a Kindle (there are many types, you can check them out – you don’t have to spend a fortune), or you can read on your computer, tablet or phone. You just need to download the Kindle app and there you go! Amazon used to have the best search tool, but changes have made it a little less user friendly and their bestseller lists are made up mostly of books in Kindle Unlimited.

If you’re not familiar with Kindle Unlimited (KU), it’s a subscription service where you pay a monthly fee and can borrow a number of books for free each month. I have some books in KU available for borrowing, but most of mine are not, because if your books are in KU they can’t be sold elsewhere. I like to have my books selling at all the retailers because not everyone reads on Kindle. So the bestseller lists at Apple and B&N and Kobo look quite different that the ones on Amazon.

B&N

Same thing goes – they have their nook ereader, or their app.

Kobo

Similar to Amazon and B&N, they too have ereaders. I LOVE my Kobo Aura H2O. It’s waterproof so I can take it to the beach or in the bathtub, and the brightness adjusts automatically so I can read in the dark, or even outside in the sun. They do have the app as well for your computer, tablet or phone.

Apple Books

You need to have an Apple device for Apple books, but many people have iPhones and iPads. Download the app!

Google Play Books

Books from Google Play can be read on computer, tablet or phone. This retailer isn’t as popular, but it’s there as another option.

Most of these retailers have help and trouble shooting online. It’s much simpler now than when I got my first Sony reader and had to hook up to the computer with a cable to get books onto my reader. Now with Wifi it’s just a matter of syncing.

If you’re not ready to try a dedicated reading device, download one of the apps on your phone or tablet and give it a try!

I ♥ California is a collection of three full-length sexy contemporary romance novels set in sunny California. The stories are complete and contain no cliffhangers. Enjoy falling in love under the sun, beneath palm trees, next to the ocean!

Book 1 With Strings Attached

The melting point is where it all comes together…or makes a big mess.

Corey Fenwick keeps her bitter past as hidden as the sweet centers inside the handmade chocolates she sells to a growing list of upscale customers. Experience has taught her the only person she can rely on is herself, so her best-friends-with-benefits relationship with Matt is perfect—no strings attached.

After his last girlfriend deemed him “boring”, Matt Ferber watched her ride off on the back of a Harley with a rock musician. Figuring he’s doomed to “let’s just be friends” with the women he cares about, the arrangement with Corey suits him fine too. Until his old friend Dylan Schell rolls into town to hang out while recovering from a surfing injury.

The sexy bad boy makes Corey’s mouth water, and she figures a harmless fling won’t hurt, especially when Dylan suggests she come between him and Matt—in bed.
It’s a win-win-win situation…until somehow there are strings attached. And too late they realize they’re getting all tangled up.

Warning: This book contains an independent woman, two hot guys, some trash talking, a little jealousy, a few beers, chocolate body paint and scary stuff like falling in love.

Book 2 Sweet Deal

The relationship is pretend. The chemistry…isn’t.

After her last job ended with a broken heart and a humiliating exit from the company, Shelby Leighton’s project management career is back on track with a new job and a high-profile project. The problem: her new boss is a little too friendly, and the staff is talking. Can you say, “déjà vu?” The solution: casually mention a fictional new boyfriend.

New problem: she’s expected to bring her new man to the upcoming corporate picnic.
Jake Magill doesn’t do relationships. It’s casual or nothing, but the hot blonde he’s been eyeing at the coffee shop sure is something. Especially when she confesses her problem, and he finds himself offering to act as her date.

Sounds simple. Stroll around the party with Shelby’s sexy curves clinging to his arm? He’s all over it. Until he meets her boss—the man who once stole and married the one woman Jake thought he loved.

Now Jake’s the one with a reason to pretend. If only to save his own pride…and Shelby from the predatory gaze of the man who could ruin her, and any chance of finding out if their fake connection is the real thing.

Warning: Contains one desperate lady in need, and a pretend boyfriend who shows impressive dedication to nailing all—and then some—elements of his role. Oh my!

Book 3 Power Struggle

Dr. Dev Fillmore can’t help but admire the slender legs of the sexy little blonde who shows up in the ER with a sprained ankle. It’s going above and beyond to make sure she gets home safely, but he has an intense urge to take care of her. When he later sees Tori at a charity event, her crutches an unusual accessory to her ball gown, he’s even more attracted to her. He’s sure they’re meant to be together.

Tori’s not so certain. Dev is younger than her, and she’s given up ever finding a man who can give her what she needs. Her career is all about solving problems, making decisions and being in charge, but in the bedroom she likes to give up control. But the attraction between them is powerful, and she succumbs to Dev’s persistent charm.

When Tori reveals what she really wants in bed, now Dev’s not sure he has it in him to give that to her. Tori thinks he does.

It’s a power struggle.

This steamy older-woman, younger-man romance about an experienced submissive and a new, caring Dom is a stand-alone novel with a happily-ever-after. You can follow Tori and Dev’s story in Power Play and Power Shift!

Thursday thoughts

The world is a crazy place right now. I’m struggling to find a way to be creative and productive. Many of us are just struggling to get through this.

I know I’m so fortunate that my daily life hasn’t really changed much. I’m a home body and I do my work from home and do all my business on the internet. As long as people keep buying books, I’ll be okay. So I want to say a huge thank you to those who are buying my books. I’ve been reading more lately and it’s a wonderful escape. I hope my books are giving some of you an escape, a distraction, hope and maybe even love.

THANK YOU!

Updates!

Hi there!

I’m just back from a trip to New York, a research trip where I walked and walked and walked! I explored neighborhoods and parks, which I hope will help when writing my new hockey series, Warriors Hockey. (Currently writing book 1! Stay tuned for more details, hopefully a fall release.) And yes, I did a little shopping!

Shoes I bought! Yes, flats!

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 virus took off while I was there, so I was happy to get home, but I’m self-isolating for two weeks just in case. I feel fine and I don’t think I was exposed. It seems the responsible thing to do right now. This virus is going to affect so many of us, we need to all do our part to minimize that as much as we can.

Yesterday, I finished the final edits for GAME CHANGER, which will be out in June. It’s funny how much this virus has already affected my thinking. As I re-read lines like “we mingle with our guests, exchanging hugs and kisses and smiles” I screamed inwardly, “Nooooo!” But this story happens in a different world, where we don’t have to worry about hugging and kissing the people we love, and I hope that we are soon back to that kind of world. In the meantime, let’s remember that love is the most powerful force in the world, even if we’re stuck at home in isolation or socially distancing ourselves.

Reading order

Google tells me that one of the most common search terms that brings people to my website is “Kelly Jamieson reading order.”

If you’ve come to look for the reading order of my series, I don’t have a specific list anywhere, but on my “Series” page you’ll see all my series and the books in each series are listed in order, left to right. All these books can be read as standalones, but if you like to read a series in order, there you go!

RELEASE DAY FOR FIRECRACKER!

WARNING: NOT A HOCKEY ROMANCE, LOL

But never worry, this book still has all the heat and humor, heart and hookups you’d expect from my books. In FIRECRACKER, a hot, protective (overprotective?) firefighter reunites with his teenage crush—his best friend’s older sister, the perfect prom queen whose life isn’t so perfect…

AMAZON | B&N | APPLE | KOBO| GOOGLE

Arden Lennox’s charmed life may be in pieces, but she’d sooner get her hoohaw bleached than move back in with her parents. She’s no longer the prom-queen princess married to the football star. She’s a broke, penniless widow, and it’s time she stood on her own two feet.

An under-construction unit in a quaint Chicago brownstone is cheap (free), but it comes with an unexpected surprise. Tyler Ramirez, her brother’s gawky high school best friend, is now a smoking hot firefighter who spends most of his spare time in her unit hammering, drilling, and screwing. Usually with his shirt off—a temptation she has no intention of indulging.

Tyler can’t believe his high school crush is living right across the hall, or how fast his fierce lust for her comes blazing back. She’s still gorgeous—a little sadder, a little quieter, but still with the amazing smile and sweet body that fueled his awkward teenage fantasies.

Despite her best intentions, Arden can’t resist grown up Tyler but the sparks between them send her into full retreat. And by the time she realizes the heat between them could last a lifetime, it could be too late to tell him…

Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

new year 2.jpg

It’s the last day of the year, and I just sent a manuscript to my editor and a cover art form to my cover artist, for what will be my June 2020 release — GAME CHANGER (a Wynn Hockey book). It seems like a good time to reflect on the past year - in fact, the past DECADE, as 2019 closes out.

I published my first book in 2009. So it’s been a decade of being a published author for me. My goals as an author have changed over the years. First, it was to see if I could write a book. Then to see if I could get published. When I started making money, I hoped I could make enough that some day I could be a full time writer. Then I did make enough, but things happened in my personal life that stopped that from happening. It took longer than I wanted, but I go into 2020 as a full time author for the first time ever. And that makes me so happy!

I already made a plan for 2020, but typical in this business, it already has to change. I got some great news as the year ends that my publisher Penguin Random House will still be publishing my books! Woop! We’re going to start something new, which I’m working on, so stay tuned.

But that won’t necessarily mean the end of my Wynn Hockey books — see above — I’m self publishing it! Another change and a challenge for 2020!

So I’ll figure out a new plan and I’m excited about it and about sharing more of my stories with all of you

Happy New Year!

Updates!

It’s been a while since I posted updates. I’m going to do better with that because I AM NOW A FULL TIME AUTHOR! Woop!
That’s right, that’s my biggest news. Around the end of October, I left the day job and am now writing full time. I’m in heaven! This is what I’ve wanted my whole life. I’ve come up with an ambitious publishing schedule for next year, let’s hope I can do it!

My other big news is this little girl…she joined our family in early October. This is Penny, now four months old. She is sweet and sassy (a lot sassy, LOL) and so, so cute! She’s keeping me busy, so good thing I only have one job now!

WIN BIG now available

It’s FINALLY release day for WIN BIG! I’m so sorry for the delay in getting this book out there, but yay! It’s finally here!

And I’m SO happy because I loved writing this book and you’re going to love it too!

Amazon | B&N | Apple| Kobo | Google

When your name is Wynn, victory’s the only option. . . .

Everly Wynn: As the only daughter in the Wynn family of hockey heroes, I never shared the ice with my brothers—or the approval they got from my father.
And that was before the scandal that ruined my life at sixteen.
Now that I’ve put all that behind me and built a successful career, the last thing I need is another hockey player in my life.
Especially one like Wyatt Bell.
He’s an arrogant, fast-living party boy. I hate how he gets by on his good looks and charm.
So why can’t I get him out of my mind?

Wyatt Bell: Life is short, and you’ve got to live it to the fullest. I learned that the hard way.
So on the ice, I always play to win, and on the town, fun and flirting are my game.
Because it’s better to laugh your way through the pain than to let them see you’re hurting—but I’ll never stop wishing I could find someone to share the real me with.
Something about Everly Wynn makes me think she could be the one.
But all she sees is a hockey jock hooked on good times.
If she didn’t take herself so seriously, maybe she would take a chance on being happy.

Everly is a special character for me, and I love Wyatt for his struggle – he is truly a hero.

Can you still love someone who did bad things?

I have been struggling for weeks now about something that is happening in Romancelandia and how to deal with it.

Someone I worked with who I liked and respected professionally has recently been the subject of a lot of scrutiny, of both her present and past behaviour. My struggle is multi-faceted—how to reconcile the person I thought I knew with her beliefs and the actions she took; how to be an ally to authors of colour and maintain a relationship with this person; do I want to maintain a relationship with this person? Should I speak up or stay out of it? I'm not impacted personally, but what kind of ally am I if I stay quiet? And the uncomfortable realization that staying quiet is using (abusing) my privilege when others have been hurt.

Can you still care about someone who did bad things?

To try to understand my feelings, I read articles about how women were feeling after men they knew and loved were accused of sexual assault. Experts referred to this as a "secondary trauma", since these women weren't harassed or assaulted, but they experienced a deep sense of betrayal by someone they cared about. Now, it's not exactly the same thing—I don't "love" this individual; we were not especially close, and no longer have even a professional relationship, but I do like her and I'm grateful for the support she's given my career. Her behaviour wasn't violent, but it was hurtful. And I learned that these women felt the same kinds of things I'm feeling now, and I gained some insights.

I learned that it's important not to make excuses for the person's behaviour.

I could talk about my own positive experiences working with this person—but that's irrelevant. What matters right now are the people who've been hurt by her actions.

We could consider how society was different in past decades, where African American romance authors had their books shelved in the "African American" section of bookstores, rather than romance. We can't blame one person for that; we can't change the past. But we can acknowledge that was wrong, and unquestionably hurt Black romance authors. We can apologize for that. We can do better.

I also learned we shouldn’t put their actions into a hierarchy of badness. Yes, this wasn't violent behaviour against other people, but it did negatively impact other people. So trying to put this on a scale of 1 to heinous racism doesn't matter. Trying to figure "what's worse—this or that?" can minimize the actions or even deny them.

I'm a member of RWA and we recently went through a painful examination of how past actions have hurt authors of color and LGBTQ authors. I learned so much from that intense discussion, and as uncomfortable as that was for many of us, it had to happen. It hurts and it's hard and it's ugly. We discovered awful things about people we respected, people we admired and looked up to as role models. We may have learned some painful things about ourselves. But this difficult conversation is necessary for us to move forward and be better. People must be held accountable for their actions.

So…can you still care about someone who did bad things? Someone’s whose beliefs are profoundly different than yours?

I would like to believe so. The world needs more caring and empathy. I write about love. I believe in the power of love.

One of the articles I read offered an opinion from experts that "The best chance of saving a relationship is if a person offers a sincere apology both to the victims and secondary victims, is generally remorseful and works to make amends to the people they’ve hurt."

This is what I need. I need to see acknowledgement of the hurts that were done. I need to see contrition. I need to see remorse. I need to see an honest effort to make amends.

I apologize for staying silent so long. It often takes me time to process things, and my inner conflicts and fears paralyzed me until I put my fingers to the keyboard to write about my feelings. I'm trying to learn and do better.

IN IT TO WIN IT now available!

Wynn family bonds bend but never break. . . .

JP Wynn: I admit, I’ve made some bad choices—on and off the ice.
Now all I want to do is show my team I can control my emotions while I’m playing and redeem myself with my family, especially with my brother, Théo.
I hate that I hurt him and I’m determined to stay out of trouble.
But the hot bridesmaid at Théo’s wedding is tempting me into another bad decision.
A little flirting and a hook up with Taylor seem harmless . . . until Manny Martinez jumps me on the dance floor and starts beating the crap out of me.
And just like that I add one more bad decision to my résumé.

Taylor Hart: I always thought hockey players were hot. Now I think they’re crazy.
Manny broke my heart when he got traded to another team and left without even a goodbye.
Then he showed up at my best friend’s wedding. All I wanted to do was show Manny that I was over him.
And the groom’s sexy brother, JP, seemed more than willing to be my distraction.
But after the way everything went down, I want nothing to do with any of them.
Easier said than done. Especially when Lacey’s new brother-in-law is always around. . . .
And I keep thinking about the wedding night, when we snuck away to his room for the best sex of my life.
