HATE ME UNDER THE MISTLETOE is now live!

It seems early for Christmas, but it’s never too early for Christmas romance, am I right?

Let’s get in the spirit!

I actually started this book last Christmas when I was under the influence of twinkle lights, carols, and shortbread. My author friends Jami Davenport, Kat Mizera, and Tess Thompson and I had the idea to write a set of Christmas stories set in the fictional mountain town of Garland Grove, where it’s aaaaalll about Christmas.

Be sure to check out their stories as well, coming each week!

Big Witch Energy is now out!

I know this book is different. I know not everyone enjoys stories about witches. But I hope you’ll give this book a chance, because it’s really not that different from my other books. Yes, there are some magical powers. There’s still lots of spice. (Imagine—being able to make your clothes disappear when things are heating up…) There’s still lots of humor. And there are lessons about life that apply to all of us, witch or “Rucker,” as we normal beings are called in the book. And we read romance…so we already know that love is the greatest magic of all.

Life’s a witch, and then you fly.

I wrote this book because the pandemic sucked the creativity out of me, and I wanted to do something that got me writing again. And it was so fun! Okay, it was hard, too, because I wasn’t totally confident in my ability to pull this off. But I like a challenge, and growing as an author.

“I am happy that this is the first book I've read by Kelly Jamieson because I am absolutely obsessed. I literally had to force myself to go to sleep. I love Romy and Trace together. The magic is so enthralling to me.” ~ Goodreads Reviewer

NEWS!

I’m getting lots of questions about what's coming next for me! Well...this is it! I wrote something really different for me...but it was so much fun! The pandemic really hit my creativity and motivation hard, so when I had this idea, I wanted to write it-- even knowing that it's different and not for everyone. That's okay! Lots more hockey romance is in the pipe! But for now...

Life’s a witch, and then you fly.

Romy Larson

The tequila made me do it—throw caution to the wind to take a DNA test. Now I know why “who’s your daddy” is a dangerous question. Dad’s a witch, with a whole magical family I knew nothing about.

Discovering I have magic isn’t the only shock (though it explains a lot). There’s a familiar face among the noisy, joyful Candler clan. A fostered son named Trace—the only other time in my play-it-safe life I did something crazy. A night of madcap fun and sizzling kisses.

Trace Holcomb

I mistook Romy for my blind date, and it was the best mistake I ever made. Her lips on mine were like magic, like hunger, like the promise of more. And then the other shoe—more like the hammer—dropped. Though the Candlers opened their big hearts to me when my family died, the truth is, Romy belongs. I don’t.

Now it’s up to me to run Romy through a crash course in remedial magic before she loses it forever. As the smoke clears from her first disastrous spells, something else becomes clearer. Our attraction wasn’t a fluke. And she could be the key to making one impossible dream come true…

New release!

Yay! Talk Hockey to Me is now available!

Last year when I was writing this book, I was afraid I would never finish it. We all know how difficult last year was (and still is). My writing was seriously impacted. I started writing it, then stopped. This took way longer than it should have. But I did go back to it and persevered and finished the book. And I think it turned out great. (Readers do too, so far, so yay!)

Then I wasn’t sure it would be published. After waiting a couple of months, my publisher decided they aren’t publishing any more books. I was okay with that, mostly happy to have a decision, because I could publish it myself. And I did. After time for edits, cover, blurb, etc. we finally have Talk Hockey to Me out in the wild!

It won’t be that long until my next release — stay tuned!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Champagne.jpg

I’m a little late posting this here on the blog. I hope you had the best holidays possible under the circumstances, most important is staying safe and healthy. Hope is here…with an end to this pandemic on the horizon with a vaccine coming. We just have to stay strong a little longer.

I see authors posting how many books they published in 2020, how many words they wrote – well I have no idea how many words I wrote lol. I did have 5 books come out and I’m so happy that people are continuing to buy books and read. I’ve heard from readers that reading is helping them get through this challenging time, and I’m so happy to do some small part to help.

I had a hard time writing in 2020, so this year may see fewer books released from me. It is what it is. Right now I’m feeling good and working hard.

I think 2020 was a crap year for a lot of people, and we're all hoping 2021 is a better year. But every year, bad things happen. This virus isn't going to end overnight. Racism and white supremacy aren't going to end overnight. Climate change isn't going to be solved tomorrow. And who knows what else could happen in 2021!

But 2021 will be a better year if we learn from what happened in 2020. If we learn to fight for racial justice, to protect our earth, and to make time with loved ones a priority even when we can go anywhere and do anything we want. And I’m hoping I can focus and write!

Wishing you a better, safe, and healthy 2021!

YOU HAD ME AT HOCKEY is here!

It’s release day for YOU HAD ME AT HOCKEY!

I’m super stoked about the how readers are receiving this book. It was fun to write a character like Sara, and of course it was exciting to write a second generation Heller boy!

Can a spirited, down-to-earth influencer get an uptight hockey player out of his shell?

I am a warrior. That’s been my motto since I recovered from a near-death accident when I was younger. Now I enjoy my nice, settled life in Dallas playing pro hockey—a boring life is better than being dead. I’m not a party guy or an adventurer; I like my routine and peace and quiet. So being traded to New York is the worst possible change that could happen. And meeting unfiltered and fascinating Sara Carrington throws my life into even more chaos.

Sara
I’ve been considered weird my whole life, which is why I’m still a virgin, but I’ve turned it into a career with my YouTube videos. Who knew people would love watching me talk about my zits, taste test meatless burgers, and try to learn TikTok dances! Now I’m launching a podcast. Getting hockey star Josh Heller as a guest will help gain listeners for sure. I expect a bearded jock with no teeth and nothing to say, but I get a hot as H-E-double-hockey-sticks grouch with a surprisingly dirty mind. My mission to make him laugh is successful, but I want to know why he’s so uptight underneath that panty-dropping smile. Maybe I can teach Josh to have some fun . . . and maybe he can teach me a thing or two along the way. . . .

As I posted this, I realized I haven’t blogged for a while. Like many of you, my life is pretty uneventful right now. Due to COVID I’ve been staying home for the last ten months. I haven’t seen extended family since last Christmas. And we’re in a terrible second wave right now here, so things are locked down again. Christmas this year is going to be different. It’s disappointing, but it’s only one year, and it’s more important that we get through this. So we’ll be creative with Zoom and with our gift exchange.

Obviously, I haven’t been able to do the traveling I was supposed to this year, but I’ve been hanging out with my author friends in video chat rooms. We’ve done a couple of all day “retreats” where we talk business stuff, brainstorm, and do writing sprints. Then we have happy hour! It’s been a lot of fun and helps get through the solitude. And this past weekend I attended the Romance Author Mastermind conference. It was supposed to be in Houston, but we met online instead. It was really great! Lots of good information packed into an exhausting agenda, and almost as good as being there in person!

My writing production has been slow this year, and that could affect my release schedule in 2021. I hate that, but it’s definitely been a challenging year. I did finish writing a book last week though—stay tuned for more details! It’s tentatively titled TALK HOCKEY TO ME and it’s another Bears Hockey book.

I have lots of ideas to work on, never fear!

Release day for MUST LOVE DOGS...AND HOCKEY

It’s finally here!

The world is such a crazy place right now. It wasn’t that long ago that I wrote this book— right when COVID was changing the world — but it feels like a long time ago. I hope you’ll read the author note at the end of this story. for more about that.

I’m THRILLED at reviews for this book! Of course everyone loves Otis, but I’m glad readers are loving Easton and Lilly too!

I have a giveaway happening right now — you can win a stuffed Otis (So cute!) and a $25 Amazon gift card — enter here .

I spent my release day morning at the eye specialist getting my pupils dilated, my eyes numbed, and having a small laser procedure…eeek! But I’m fine now.

July updates

Happy summer! It’s still a weird world, but I’m grateful for moments I can sit in the sun on my deck, admire my flowers, drink a glass of wine and read a book.

I just sent my editor the book I’ve been working on — and I have a title for you now!

YOU HAD ME AT HOCKEY will be out in December!

Stay tuned for cover and more details.

The main female character in this book, Sara, was really fun to write. She loves pink…pink macarons, pink flowers, pink wine.

So lately I’ve been on a pink kick (pink is not my favorite color!). I decided I should try some pink wines, you know, so my writing is realistic LOL

Then I needed pink flowers…

I got to go to the beach for the day last week to enjoy the hot weather we’ve been having. It was so relaxing. I love being by the water. It’s not the ocean, but Lake Winnipeg is huge, so it’s pretty close, and the sand is soft, powdery white — so beautiful. (Don’t worry, it wasn’t busy and we were able to social distance.)

I hope you are managing to enjoy summer despite the turmoil in the world. I’ve been escaping into good books, and I hope books provide you with some much needed comfort.

Rhubarb!

Look at me going all Martha Stewart here!

When I moved into my condo, there was a huge rhubarb plant in a place I didn’t want it. I dug it up and moved it, and I figured if it died, oh well. It didn’t die. It’s bigger than ever.

20200621_144553.jpg

I picked a bunch of it.

20200621_145102.jpg

I need 4 cups of sliced rhubarb. Will this be enough?

Sorry about the huge pics — Squarespace is being a asshole and not letting me fix these ones. The ones above worked. Sigh.

20200621_150008.jpg

Perfect! I don’t know how the hell I did that.

20200621_151137.jpg

I added 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water, brought it to a boil and simmered for 25 minutes.

20200621_151325.jpg

Now we have rhubarb simple syrup! I strained the cooked rhubarb into this bowl. There is a lot of rhubarb pulp left, which seems a waste but I have no idea what to do with it. It tastes delish.

20200621_155633.jpg

First thing I made with the rhubarb simple syrup — rhubarb lemonade. I used 1/4 cup simple syrup, juice of one large lemon, 3/4 cup water and topped it up with ice. Sour, but really refreshing!

20200621_160220.jpg

I then moved on to cocktails. A rhubarb mojito! This was the BEST mojito I’ve ever had.

1/4 cup rhubarb simple syrup

a bunch of fresh mint

Muddle it in the glass. I cut a lime into quarters, squeezed 2 quarters into the glass then added them and muddled them too. Then I squeezed in the other half of the lime in, added rum, club soda, and ice. OMG this was so good!

Release Day for Game Changer!

Yay! It’s release day for Game Changer! I’m so glad you all get to read this story. I loved writing it, and advance readers have loved it too.

Lots of fun tropes in this story!

  • runaway bride

  • road trips

  • there’s only one bed!

  • friends to lovers

  • forbidden love

I wrote about the road trip to Clear Lake here (yes, it’s a real place!) if you’re interested in reading about why it’s so special to me. Here are few more pics:

The lake really is as clear and blue as I describe. It’s gorgeous!

I hope you enjoy the road trips as well as the sweet and sexy romance!

Speaking up

I don’t usually post about politics, especially American politics because I am not American, but right now I feel I have to say something about what is happening in the United States. As a Canadian, I am so worried, sad, and scared for you all. I am heartbroken for the families and friends of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery—and those are just recent tragedies. I am sickened by the behaviour of Amy Cooper.

AdobeStock_134375627.jpeg

White privilege is being able to think of ourselves as an individual and not representative of the entire race. Another privilege is not feeling responsible for the behaviour of other white people—like Amy Cooper. This makes it easy to stay silent – it’s not my fault! I didn’t do those things! But not speaking up against violence against people of colour is also part of my white privilege and staying silent is not being an ally. So I have to say something. Nothing will change while we stay silent.

It starts with listening and learning. It starts with learning what the issues are -- how can we deconstruct systemic racism if we don’t know what the issues are? It also starts with promoting equality and racial justice in own own community. We need to speak up and call out racism and microagressions when we see them, instead of staying silent. These small things are just the beginning, but they are things we can all do.

We need to change ourselves if we’re going to change the system and if speaking out like this makes my fellow white people uncomfortable, please sit and think seriously about why that is.

May Updates!

I haven’t posted for a while! I guess that’s what quarantine life does…not much is happening!

Okay, some things are happening. Last week I heard back from my editor about the manuscript I sent her and she LOVED it! So, yay! She had a few suggestions for changes, and they all made sense, so I fixed some things and added and cut and sent it back and we’re moving on. We still don’t have a title…but we have an idea! Stay tuned for if this gets final approval. We’re also working on a cover. This book may not look like my others, but rest assured it will still have all the feels and fun and heat of my other books.

I’m also super exited about the advance reviews for GAME CHANGER. This book is coming out June 9, gah, still so far away! I can’t wait because readers are loving it and I want you all to have it!

game-changer-e-reader.jpg

Some people are wondering if this will be the end of the Wynn Hockey books…right now it’s on hold, but there are still some family members whose stories I want to tell, so I really hope I will be able to write those in the future. Watch this space!

Other than that, I’m staying home, trying to write and still eating too much, LOL. I sewed a couple more masks for people who need them. I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy.

Today I got an email from a reader that made me cry.

"I just wanted to let you know that I've had a fantastic experience over the last few weeks listening to your Aces audio books and reading the ones I couldn't find recordings of. With the virus the world really sucks right now and I hope you know that what you do is important, vital even, and has helped me stay sane. your words are the best escape in these troubling times. Thank you."

Like many of you, I’ve struggled during this crazy COVID 19 time. I feel so helpless. I’ve donated to a local food bank. I’ve given blood. I’ve sewn masks for my family. I wish I could do more. So knowing that my books are helping people is the best thing that could happen to me right now.
